VM/swap space WIN
Haven’t updated in a while.
Just to let you guys know, if you’re having trouble with RAM on your ipod touches, search on Cydia for “virtual memory” or “swap space”. After installing, reboot, and then go to sbsettings and press FREE UP MEMORY under “processes”. If your RAM is under 50MB, it will jump up to 80MB. I can now run COD zombies, mail, safari, MSN, and STILL run Modern Combat without breaking a sweat.
How does this work? Well I’m not going to go into the detailed technical aspects, but basically is uses a bit of your Flash memory and converts it into RAM space (up to 256MB for me). The downside to this ofc, is your long term memory will eventually wear out (give it 5 years or so). RAM memory is designed for bashing around, but constantly rewriting on your HD is going to kill it.
Is it worth it? I’d say yes. It’s going to improve your experience by SOOOOOO much (I mean it, before I couldn’t even run COD zombies, even after I killed every other process). Chances are, my 2g IPT is going to be replaced within 5 years, so no big deal over the dead memory. Go for it.
Well, I felt like writing something, so here you are
dunno when I can update again. Maybe when firmware 5 comes out.
