Internet for iPod via USB!!
Yes it’s a reality. I couldn’t believe my eyes!! YOU CAN NOW GET INTERNET CONNECTION FOR YOUR iDEVICE BY CONNECTING IT TO YOUR COMPUTER!!
Requires wifi for initiation, see below.
All thanks and credits go to iNetCable Dev Team.
Requirements:
Just some programs (listed below with link)
AN AVAILABLE WIFI CONNECTION (it can be locked! (
) so long as you have a good strength wifi connection for intiation, then you can loose connection, doesn’t matter)
1gen/2gen iPod [soz no iPhone]
openSSH [download from Cyder(no wifi, see my tutorials) or Cydia]
1)Download USB utilities here. LINK DEAD!
Unzip it.
2)Download ccproxy here. LINK DEAD!
Follow the self-explained instructions and instal ccproxy.
3)Open it and click Options, Advanced, Networks tab, and uncheck “Disable External Users” (then click OK and OK again):

4)Start the proxy if it isn’t already started (Click Start on main proxy window)
5) Plug in your iPod and make sure you started up SSH
6)Extract USB utilities and open the folder inside (Don’t try to run form within archive, it won’t work)
7) First click on “1_start_tunnel.cmd” (A black window should open, make sure you don’t close it throughout your session)
Note: If a Windows Firewall dialog pops up, click on “Unblock”
8) Then click on “proxy_tunnel.cmd”. Type in your SSH password (Default: alpine).
It may also ask you a question, just press “y” and then enter and it will countinue.
(Same as above, don’t close the window!)
9)On the iPod open Settings. Press Wi-Fi and turn it on. Find the network you want to use and click the little arrow to go to the Options.
10)Scroll down and under HTTP Proxy select Manual, type in 127.0.0.1 as the server and 808 as the port. Leave Authentication OFF:

11
) Go back to Wi-Fi Netwoks, click on the network this time and if it is locked type in any letters.
Note: If you get the following screen that means you did something wrong or the connection is weak so just click again or try to catch it better.

12) If after you typed in the password it didn’t care you are done! Just wait for the WiFi logo to appear and start browsing.
Note: Even though you can lose the WiFi connection and it won’t be used, you still must have WiFi (ON) throughout your session.
13) Happy Surfing And Wait for the Full Thing!
Note: most of this information is just (erm…) “borrowed”, so it’s only right to put up ‘copyright’ info where it is due.
Again thank iNetCable Dev team for their nice work, and here’s their web page:
www.inetcable.projects.zoho.com
login info: USERNAME – projecttesters PASSWORD – test
and the downloaded programs are also from the web page. I’m not sure if I can post a direct link to the programs, but for convenience, let’s just say I can. Someone tell me if I’m breaking any rules… (cough*)
ORIGINAL post:
VERY SPECIAL NOTE: with WPA protected wifi connections, typing anything in the password field dosen’t work
I don’t know what does… (see below for more info)
With WEP protected, you MUST type in the password field anything that is EXACTLY 5 or 13 letters long. That is because the security requires passwords to be this long, and it wont consider anything that isn’t… Which brings us to the case of WPA. I only heard that passwords have to be between 8 and 26 letters, and so I’m lost. If anyone manages to make this work, tell me, it could just be a ‘private’ / ‘personal’ bug.
